, then mitt romney needs two things to get back in this game. one i think he can do and a good debate performance. make no mistake about it, mitt romney is a good debater. he won virtually every republican debate except south carolina where newt gingrich started off hot and stayed hot. mitt romney is disciplined, focused in a debate he sounds and loos like a president as he did in his interview with brine williams on education nation yesterday. he will have a good debate performance. two, he needs an -- some form of implosion or serious mistake by the obama campaign or some international event that doesn't rally people around the president but focuses people on a perceived weakness. i don't think either of those are likely to happen. in terms of a mistake by the obama campaign, they've always been fairly safe and cautious. if this were a sporting event, i would say they're running out the clock right now. >> running out the clock and, in fact, perhaps too cautious. you've got hillary clinton going to, perhaps, a dozen meetings with foreign leaders and president obama already out of he

debate. ohio without a doubt a must-win state for governor romney. here's the new "the washington post" poll. you see the numbers right here. the president above 50, six-point lead in the state of ohio. that's one poll. but if you put together what we call a poll of polls, looking at now a half dozen polls look what youget. a six-point lead for the president of the united states and again, a must-win state for mitt romney. that is the state of ohio. another must-win, i can give you a mathematical scenario for romney to win without florida but it's very difficult. so what about florida? two new polls out today, one is an arg poll shows the president with a five-point lead. here's the "washington post" pollou just mentioned, shows dóe president with a four-point le again, what wei to do when you have a lot of polls is add them all up and average them out. this is more than a half dozen polls conducted over the last two weeks. what do you get? a four-point lead for the president in the state of florida. when you average it out. there are other battleground polls as well but let's just fo

to predictions -- i think this will come up in the debate. not because mitt romney will bring it up, but because he will be asked about it by one of the moderators. but the romney campaign has shown no signs of pulling back on this. i got a mail -- i live in virginia -- i got a mail at my house for my daughter, who registered to vote a week ago. it repeated all the lines in the welfare at. i think the romney campaign has found a message that it once to -- wants to keep hitting. i think that will come up in the debate. we will hear from obama. initially, we saw this in the polls, this has resonated, their traditional scare seniors about medicare tactics. that has been working really well. so i think obama will bring that up. one thing we will hear is the phrase that romney would end medicare's guarantee, which is a phrase the democrats have liked to use recently. we have raided that half-true for two reasons. one, it is not like it really has a guarantee now. congress can change the medicare benefits any time it wants to. it frequently has. now, romney would change the structure in which people w
